Gin Rummy
Gin rummy is played by two players with a standard deck 52 cards. Players can choose rooms having a maximum points for a game ranging from 100 to 300 points. The game is won by the first player that reaches the room's maximum point which may take several deals.
On the card deck, ace 'A' is 1 point, subsequent cards are their indicated value up to 10. However Jack, Queen, King are considered 10 points each.
The object of the game is to form melded sets of three or more cards, either :
a. 3 or 4 cards of the same rank, like all threes
b. sequence or straight of the same suit, like 3,4,5 of Diamonds
The game starts with both players dealt ten cards each. Then the 21st card is opened face up next to the deck. The first move starts with the non-dealer by picking up the open card and exchanging it with his unwanted card or passing the opportunity. In case of passing, the dealer moves next with the same scenario. If both players refuse the first face up card, the non-dealer starts by drawing a card on the closed deck and discard an unwanted card from his hand. Thereafter, each player that is moving can now pick from the face up card or the closed deck. He completes his turn by discarding an unwanted card on the face up stack. It is not permitted to draw the face up card and discard it on the same turn.
During the course of the game, the players discard unwanted cards and retain cards that would form melds. Whatever is left in the player's hand that are not forming melds, are called deadwood. This is the basis in calculating the point penalty of each player at the end of each game.
A hand consisting entirely of melds with no deadwood is described as gin. The players, however, need not have to wait for gin and end the game as soon as the total value of his deadwood is 10 or less.
The first step in scoring is to determine the total card value count of all unmatched cards for the player that knocked. If the player that knocked has the lower count of deadwood, he scores the difference between their values of deadwood. For gin, the player that knocked is given additional 25 point bonus.
If the player that knocked has higher or equal value of deadwood, he receives a 25 point penalty for undercut plus any difference in deadwood values.
The score is kept cumulatively for each player on the score board. The first player that reaches the maximum total point wins the game.
