Tringo

Tringo garnered the distinction of being the first game to be created inside a game. It evolved in the 3D online game Second Life, where it was created by Nathan Keir (aka Kermitt Quirk) in December 2004. Tringo combines the familiar shapes of Tetris and the rules of Bingo.

The game is played on a 5x5 grid. There are 35 different shapes that is based on cubic designs which can be rotated to match a perspective location on the board. The objective of the game is to place the shapes on the playing board such that you clear blocks (squares, rectangles and 4 corners) and leave as few blocks on the board as possible. Points are awarded for successfully clearing blocks. The catch is that you have limited time to place each piece as it is highlighted by a timer and you lose points if you skip placing a shape on the board.

A cleared block corresponds to the following points :

4 corners 5 points
2 x 2 5 points
2 x 3 15 points
3 x 2 15 points
3 x 3 40 points
4 x 4 60 points

A penalty of 5 points is deducted on your score if you miss a turn or skip a shape.
